Temple University is a public research and higher education institution that was founded in 1884. Temple University has eight campuses, six in Pennsylvania including a hospital, one in Rome, Italy, and one in Tokyo, Japan. 

As a classified  R1 “Doctoral  University  with Highest  Research  Activity''  institution,  and with a  total  operating  budget  of  $1.29B  (fiscal  year  2020),  Temple  University  runs  a  variety  of  research,  education,  and  commercialization  centers  and institutes.

iNest

The Innovation Nest (iNest), is Temple University’s home for the development of research-based innovations.
The iNest features three integrated zones: INNOVATE (Advancing new discoveries) / INCUBATE (Accelerating startup growth) / COLLABORATE (Connecting the iNest community to the surrounding entrepreneurial and investment ecosystem).
Companies at the iNest will have access to the SBDC and also could apply to NSF i-Corps program. 

The iNest is opening its doors to foreign ventures eager to test their technologies and collaborate with the University. Temple has multiple resources and programs to help foreign ventures depending on their objectives and maturity

Companies at the iNest will have access to (and support from) the SBDC consulting resources.
The Pennsylvania Small Business Development Center at Temple University is part of a nationally accredited program that provides educational training, business resources, and experienced no-cost, confidential consulting to small business owners and entrepreneurs in Lower Bucks, Eastern Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties. The Pennsylvania SBDC has a statewide network of 15 centers and outreach locations to serve small businesses since 1979 and are fully accredited by America’s SBDC.

NSF i-Corps Northeast Hub - under the leadership of Princeton University, along with 10 (and expending) mid-Atlantic universities like Temple University, launched Propelus, a program open to any researcher or innovator in the northeast, regardless of their affiliation with a Hub partner institution.
The Propelus I-Corps regional program aims to bring research to the marketplace, helping innovators explore the potential for their innovations to benefit society. The participating teams participate in a hands-on, four-session program designed to identify how their innovation meets customer needs.

Mid Atlantic Diamond venture - is an independent organization that assists emerging, technology-based companies in their effort to build sustainable businesses by better positioning them for funding while increasing value at an early and crucial stage. Using coaching sessions to prepare qualified companies for investments; it helps ensure that investment materials are comprehensible, defensible and compelling; and provides input around critical aspects of entrepreneurship and scaling.

BioStrategy Partners - Temple is a co-founder of BioStrategy Partners, a 501c3 nonprofit consortium of academic medical centers and research institutes committed to the development and transfer of academic research into the marketplace. BioSP develops and offers programs and services to foster industry-academic collaboration, aid technology development and commercialization, and contribute to the ongoing education of faculty and graduate students about the commercialization and technology transfer processes.

Who can apply and how long does the program last?

Application Criteria

The focus of this ENRICHERS - who want to develop a US venture. As long as there is a project of trying to launch a business in Pennsylvannia - no requirement of legal entity is needed. 

Visa options 

  • J-1 Trainee (up to 18 months) when available

  • J-1 Long Term Scholar (18 to 24 months renewable for up to 5 years)
